Lots of 22 ammo available here on the shelves. Lots of it at Walmart. We are going to get a four or five day thaw here as well stating Sunday. We could do with a loss of snow. Stay warm.
We have a Wallyworld 5 minutes from the house and they have had no 22s for close to a year. I haven't seen a bulk box like that for at last 4 years. Cabelas is also about 10 minutes away and though they tell me the 22s are coming in they do not remain on the shelves more than 30 minutes before they are all scoffed up even though they limit it to 1 box of 100 count per customer. Apparently there is a line waiting at the door when they open in the morning and these mooks resell them for 75$ a box at the gun shows. I reload all my centerfire stuff but until I figure out way to make the primer compound reloading 22s is out of the question.
Yes, Tom its kind of wacky. For a while there you could not find any ammo in common calibers, .380 acp 9mm, 40, 45acp, 38spl, 357mag, .223, .308 30-30, 30-06 zilch nuthing nada. Shelves were bare. Most of it has come back within the last month or two but 22s seem to be made of unobtanium, and I still hardly seen any at all. Bulk boxes like that one were common at about 14 $ a box, but like I said this is the forst one I have seen in 4 or 5 yrs. Paid 25 $ for that one. Some goombahs are buying them just to re-sell for 75 $ a box. I refuse to play along with that. The producers are making them as fast as they can but they can't keep up with demand. CCI alone puts out something like 100 thousand boxes of 22s a day. Where the hell is it? Most ammo makers and component makers are all owned by a couple of big consortium's. Powders and primers were also almost impossible to find for the last 2 yrs. I am not a black helicopter tin foil hat type but some folks are talking conspiracy because Barry boy and his band of shysters are seriously looking to put a dent in the second amendment and since they can't get at the guns they figure shut down the ammo. The last lead smelter in the US just shut down due to pressure from the justice department over "environmental issues". So that may be scarce soon. Not sure what to make of it. One thing is for sure the only industry Barry boy has helped is gun sales. 500 $ ARs are selling for 2500$ a piece and makers can't spit them out fast enough. I am sure there is a whole lot of panic buying as it coincided with his reelection and just now they are catching up. Same thing happened when he first got elected. If the ammo makers are not gearing up its because the business environment is simply to unstable to take the chance on expanding and hiring new employes with all the new healthcare regs being shoved down employers throats, and they are simply sitting tight till things change.
The reselling is the issue out here. They pick them up for $30 and sell them for $80-$100. The suckers that pay that price are the real problem. Good find. Haven't seen a bulk box here in at least two years. Plenty of CCI stingers if you look.
Stopped by Cabelas this afternoon and saw 2 boxes of 500 count, of some odd ball-zombie killer-black box novelty type for 60 $ a piece. I passed and five minutes later when I walked by the shelf they were gone. They also had 1 box of red tracers 200 count for 90$, no thanks. They tell me the CCIs have been showing up but they get snatched up within the first half our they are on the shelf. They tell me to get those you need to be in line at the door when they open at 8 am.

DeleteSo let me get this straight. The overwhelming demand is there but the suppliers haven't cottoned on? Sounds bloody un-American to me!
