Damn turd Bugs.
Seems we have a bumper crop of Red Lily beetles this year.
They make a mess of the buds, leaves and flowers
The emerge out of the ground as red beetles lay eggs on the underside of the leaves. They mature into grubs and eat every part of the the Lily plant. They cover themselves in their own fecal mater making themselves in to moving turds.
They are an invasive species from Asia and Europe and make a mess of the flowers.
Eventually they mature in to these tiny red beetles, that lay eggs on the underside of the leaves, that become the turd grubs. Then drop to the ground and get buried, and the cycle starts over again.
A few flowers managed to survive untouched
Don't you have bug poison? Si no tienes, coloca varias fotos del bobama entre las plantas y es muy probable que las bugs se vayan volando.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ... Not much seems to affect these bugs. I use a Rose and Flower poison by Bayer but it does not seem to last very long and they come back in a few days.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried vinegar? I wonder how far north in Maine those go? I've never seen them in the county.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have not tried vinegar, but perhaps I should. I have been using the Bayer Rose and Flower poison, which seems to be about the only thing that sees to somewhat help. The problem is that it washes off in a couple of days. And then one morning you get up and you have an invasion of these turd bugs and by daylight they have eaten half the flowers.
