. . . when it rained and caused my garage to flood
So spent three hours this afternoon
Hefting this thirty pound breaker bar
making ice cubes out of five inch thick ice
to accomplish this
And hopefully provide a channel for water to flow around
Meanwhile the neighbors across the street did the sensible thing . They sold the house , packed up and headed for Arizona leaving this god forsaken state in the rear-view mirror .
Yes the rock salt works on thinner ice. Not much use on this thick stuff. All it will do is kill the lawn under it when it finally thaws in the spring. For now the ice breaking is done. Hopefully any further snow will be of the kind I can manage with the snow blower and keep the path clear. That should provide a channel for any melt water to travel away. Trouble was we got a storm early last week that was just slop, heavy like concrete and the snowblower would bog down on me. So it just sat there and froze six inches thick and then when it rained after that, all the rainwater drained in to the now lower dirt floor of the Volvo shed and from there into the garage. Hopefully my work today will have made a difference.
ReplyDeleteWow! I don't envy you that job!
ReplyDeleteYea I'm licking my wounds right now. Beer and Aleve to numb the pain. One day I will get smart like my neighbors.
DeleteI'm doing everything I can to avoid spending next winter in the frozen north. Expecting somewhere between 3 to 9 more inches over the next few days. -12 this morning, first day of March.
DeleteLeaving this place alone for the winter is not an option. I would have a disaster on my hands upon my return. We have five years left to pay it off. The we rent the big yellow truck and follow our neighbors south.
DeleteLOL. That’s a real Friday nite party for us ol farts inninit? Pain killers!
ReplyDeleteI do that once in awhile too. They don’t relieve the pain, but they mask it for awhile... hang in there M.
Better living though modern chemistry right? I swear this while business is like an abusive marriage, you hang on hoping it won't be so bad the next time, just to get thrashed twice as bad as the last.
DeleteBreaking ice is miserable work. I'm glad I don't have to do that. I guess next time I feel like bitching about cleaning out diversion ditches, I should just mentally picture you out there doing that, and I won't feel so put upon.
ReplyDeleteArizona is really nice. These days, I wish I lived out there.
Spent another couple hours at mom's busting up ice there on Sunday cause her garage was also flooding. Last night we got another foot of wet sloppy snow. Been moving that garbage all day today. Sure putting a dent in the Aleve bottle these days.
DeleteYea Arizona is appealing though I don't think their political representatives are any better than the morons we have here.
