Yea so I've been slacking for a bit and my devoted followers , all three of them , have been complaining about my absence . . . . . . sheesh the things I have to do ! ! ! ! !
OK guys . . . I'll throw you a bone . . .
So there I was on a sunny Sunday a week ago making space in my tool shed to put away my snow blower . This involves chucking out most of the crap from the shed , evicting the mice that have taken up residence and rearranging all my junk to make space for the snow blower . Thrilling stuff eh ?
When I got the call to go play with the Bonanza . . . Well yea !
So I chuck all that crap back in the shed real quick and meet Clint at the airport thirty minutes later .
So we moved the plane out of the hangar so the radios could see the satellites and locate itself .
Loaded the updates in the radios , fired up the engine and got our clearance from the tower .
A quick takeoff on runway 18 puts us over Rigby Yard in South Portland .
And soon over Scarborough . . . the red arrow points at my house .
When we engage the autopilot it quickly proves it is still on the fritz . As soon as we switch it on the plane initiates a steep climb and wants to do its own aerobatic sequence . . . . Yikes that's not good . . . Switch it off . . . Electric trim is also doing what ever it wants now . . . . OK that's enough of that .

DeleteGlad you are fine. It's snowing up here in the North Country this morning. Very glad to still have fuel for the woodstove. I've discovered the best planes are the ones friends own.

DeleteWell, . . . actually I've been skulking here watching the freak show for several years now. Just have never felt the urge to say anything. Living somewhere where they don't salt the roads, even when we have butt deep snow, I find it a bit entertaining watching you work on your cars. That's some epic rust. Totally foreign to me. I have several 40+ year old rigs that have nothing more than surface rust under them.
ReplyDeleteMost of all I like the fact you have learned to do so many things, and are substantially self sufficient. That's the way it should be. It really sucks that as I'm getting older, I now have to hire someone to do some of the things I used to do for myself. Did you know that getting old SUCKS? Of course, it beats the alternative.
Yes the rust is wretched here, it is really awful how quickly it kills a car. As for mending things I really had no choice but to figure it out myself. Could not afford to pay anyone else to do it, and when I did I was disappointed anyhow. So it was either do the job myself or walk.
DeleteAs for ageing .... yes I am getting a bit long in the tooth here too. Knocking on the door of sixty myself. The warranty expired on this PWT junker a long time ago. Youthful crash and burns on assorted wheeled and motorized vehicles, plus forty years of swinging a hammer have done me no favors. Seems I hit fifty and it all went pear shaped on me. As you may recall, in the last few years we've had spinal surgery and two massive bladder stones a year apart both requiring surgical removal, plus the cancer scare. I'm good for about four hours of physical work before the body pains make me too punch drunk to be safe around power tools and be able to keep all my digits. It all has put a bit of a damper on my motivation.
Do you have many projects planned for the coming year to keep us, your loyal herd enthralled?
ReplyDeleteRight now nothing really. But I am sure something will come up. I do have to go back at some point to that big project I was working on over the winter after the subs are done and finish up all the trim , build doors, and a couple storage cabinets.

ReplyDeleteAnd that is why we practice them. In this case the issue we were battling was the wonky autopilot and trim servos.
