Hey Kevin. He's got one of those 6.6 liter 550 hp Duramax turbo diesels in there and that beast weighs 8500 lbs. The Volvo is 2000 lbs, and at best doing 110hp on a good day. Don't think I'd care to test which one is quicker though. I do know that at $800 per tire that he is paying I can buy twelve sets of tires for my Volvo for each set of his. And at 10mpg I could not afford to keep fuel in that beast. In contrast the tank on the Volvo only holds 10 gallons and I can do about 200 miles on that. He's the local phone repair guy and is doing real well for himself.
Sounds like he is compensating for some inadequacy... I have a 1 ton Chevy PU with a single cab and 8 ft bed and I get 14 mpg with a 34 gallon tank. No, I couldn't afford to fuel up the Hum, bad enough my truck... Looking for a small pick up in decent, running condition and is hard than finding hen's teeth. I am hoping to get around on decent mileage.
Actually he's quite the American success story. He's a Spaniard who emigrated to the US. Set himself up in business repairing phones, busts his but every day, and did real well for himself. Had about a dozen stores in Miami and then ten years ago moved up here when his daughter lived here, and started all over. Has a collection of about 15 cars, a 140 lb Rottweiler, and no wife, so he gets to do what he dam well pleases and spends his money as he sees fit. He's one of the good guys on our side and I'll vouch for that.
I bet you could beat that Hummer off the line!
