Winter birds

One of the few perks of snow storms is that it is fairly easy to attract birds the day after if you clear a patch and put down some seed.
Three Blue Jays have been visiting the feeder regularly.
Nut Hatches are here often
And the doves never miss a good feed

  1. I used to really enjoy feeding the birds, but it got too expensive.

    1. Yes, I make a 25 pound 9 $ bag last a couple of months but I have to meter it out. Its the dang chipmunk that will clean it up in no time flat. Hopefully by now hes hibernating.

  2. Hi Mike, I really enjoy fresh white snow and the birds visiting. At times they are more welcome than people, lol

    1. Hi john, yea birds are a a darn sight easier to deal with than most people. Getting quite tired of those that are around me here. Thanksgiving night the neighbors teenage kid, god only knows why, decided that at 4 am he needed to move the now frozen snowbank he had been to lazy to do something about during the day like most normal people. He saw nothing wrong with making an ungodly racket beating on the ice with a plastic push shovel not 50 feet from my bedroom window. He only quit when I opened the window and yelled at him to stop being an idiot. I swear I can't get far enough away from these inconsiderate morons.

  3. The garden here is full of birds looking for food and water which are a plenty.

    1. Hey Doc, over here with a foot of snow on the ground the pickings are slim, so when you clear a patch and put some seed down the really crowd in.

  4. Reminds me to put some food out for ours here. Is there many cats by you as they have serious effects on bird numbers.

    1. Yes that can be an undesired effect of attracting birds as well. In addition to having witnessed the hawk killing a dove, on several occasions I have seen the aftermath of someones demise. I suspect it is other wildlife making an easy meal of a complacent bird.
