62 years in time

"Progress is well and fine. . . but its gone on for far too long"

The man said he powered his house with it last week when the ice storm took down the power lines.

  1. Is that a Ferrari? Or did someone slap that on the old car? Either way, if someone is giving them away And I can't just sell the one I pick, I'm grabbing the keys to the black one.

    1. Yea the black one is my "Swedish Ferrari" . . . A 1962 Volvo PV 544 . The sticker is a prancing moose. The above picture was taken at the Cabelas cruise in in Scarborough Maine on Thursday 4/18. A weekly meet for mostly "boy racer" types put on by Derrick Rabida and his friends. A couple of us old guys have been crashing the show. Here is a video Derick put up from last Sunday's meet. My buddy Scott's 54 Ford and my Volvo come up about minute 11:45. https://youtu.be/qq5iqJsFfyc

  2. You're back on, thought you slipped your mortal coil, or went to the big Volvo dealership in the sky... I too would drive away with even your Volvo Mike than that ugly monstrosity. Powered his house? How did he get to drive it to the event? I am sure the battery was drained.

    1. Hey Kevin, I haven't assumed room temperature yet . . . I think the guy with that rolling kitchen appliance lives a couple streets over from us . I've seen him around a couple times in the last couple weeks . The car meet is just a bunch of geeky kids with racer boy cars but a couple of us old duffers show up just to keep it interesting. The guy in the Telsa left in disgust after about 20 minutes cause my Volvo was getting a lot more interest from the kids.
We had a couple hard core ice storms here within the last three weeks that took the power out to 350 thousand houses in the southern part of the state . We were out for 35 hours each time before they got us back up and running . Nasty sloppy wet snow hitting cold trees and power lines building up fast. Add a little wind and its a spark show. Ran the generator for 35 hours on each occasion to keep my basement from flooding. I guess the battery bank in that Tesla is big enough to power the essentials in a house around here for some time without any major issues. At over 100 grand for that rig that makes for one pricey power source. My 5500 watt Generac only ran me about 600 bucks nine years ago.

    2. Those wheels you refurbished awhile ago still look spiffy! They held up well. Makes the car an understated hotrod! Terrible about the snow storms. We had a mild winter, as I am living in Oregon for a while, but pining to be back in South Dakota. Will be soon, after I get a health problem fixed. That Tesla is still an ugly fugly... I wouldn't drive that or one of the cars for love or money or even a drunken dare...

    3. Yes those are the Ford Ranger wheels I refinished last summer. They really make all the difference in handling. They actually allow me to keep up with present day highway traffic.
The price tag on that rolling electric appliance is that of a house in most normal places. Its not a realistic vehicle for most of us regular stiffs. I can think of a lot better things to spend my money on if I had that kind of dough to splurge anyhow. I think it has all the appeal of a dishwasher. I suppose that's what you get when soy boys in Capri pants and man buns try to design a car.
Hope you can sort out hour health issues soon. Seems a few of the usual bloggers have gone MIA lately and I fear they may not be with us any longer. Have not heard anything from Gorges Grouse since December. I know he was not doing well and he may not be down for breakfast any longer.

    4. I know, all the old guy, wise guys are gone. I have tried to contact Gorges by email several times and no response. I know I wouldn't buy that air fryer for 50 bucks... If I have to buy a battery tonka toy I am going ballistic!
